When the owners of this charming 1200 square foot 2 bedroom home began to outgrow their space they briefly considered moving, before opting to expand instead. They explained that they loved their neighborhood too much to leave. We were asked to design for them a 670 square feet addition consisting of a Master bedroom wing and mudroom all within a very modest budget.
A primary design goal was to maintain a strong connection to the backyard, visible upon entering the front door. A secondary entrance from the rear deck leads to the mudroom with direct access to the kitchen, the hub of the house.
Other design considerations included extending the wood floors and vaulted ceilings from the existing home to the addition so that the new space would feel like a cohesive whole. Abundant light and views through and out to the back yard invite users to explore the space.
